FINAL QUARTER COMEBACK SEES ARCHERS LIFT EBL TROPHY 18th March 2010, 16:13 pmBy Matt Duncan Having trailed throughout, the UWIC Archers came from behind in the dying minutes of the game to clinch a 52-56 victory over the City of Sheffield Hatters to be crowned the EBL Women's Division 1 champions After a slow scoring start the Hatters strode into the lead ending the first quarter 15-7 up. The second quarter was not so positive for the Hatters as UWIC levelled the game 16-all in the first four minutes and they were forced to sit Shanna Oaddams down after she collected her third foul. But the Yorkshire team managed to keep the lead going into the locker room at 24-21. The Hatters came out strong in the second half increasing their lead to 40-30 with three minutes of the quarter remaining, but the Archers came back once again narrowing the gap to 40-38 with less than a minute left, before the Hatters stretched their lead to five, going into the final quarter 43-38.
The two teams continued to trade baskets with the Hatters keeping the lead 48-44 at the mid-point of the final quarter. The Archers once again fought back to level the scores at 48-all and eventually took the lead for the first time with just 67 seconds left on the clock, a lead that they would hold on to to secure the 52-56 victory.
GB Standard Life guard, Stef Collins, was named MVP after scoring a game-high 17 points and eight rebounds, while her fellow GB and Archers teammates, Meagan Hoffman and Kate Butters, added 13 points each, plus eight and seven rebounds respectively.
This is only the Hatters second loss of the season and means they miss out on completing the domestic treble by adding the play off trophy to the League and cup double which they had already secured. GB Standard Life and Hatter teammates, Rosalee Mason and Lisa Hutchinson each scored 8 points.

Cardiff Celts Wheelchair Basketball |

Did you know that there is a wheelchair basketball Club in Cardiff?
Have you ever thought of playing wheelchair basketball?
You might have thought that it was only for people who use a wheelchair full-time – but that isn’t the case. ANYONE can play wheelchair basketball….and it could be an excellent way back into basketball, especially if you (or someone you know) can no longer play the able-bodied game.
The Cardiff CELTS Wheelchair Basketball Club has two competitive teams – and our first team (which has just won promotion) trains twice a week and competes regularly in the National League second division. We have players of all abilities (both disabled and able-bodied) from beginners up to current and potential Great Britain players.
And we are recruiting right NOW – which makes this the perfect time to join us!!!
Wheelchair Basketball is an exciting, dynamic, fast-paced sport that has all the thrills and spills of the “able-bodied” game – we use the same ball, the same court, the same basket – and most of the same rules. You’ll find that most of the skills you’ve learned “on your feet” will transfer readily into the wheelchair game.
Curious? There’s a lot more information on the Club website – www.cardiffwheelchairbasketball.co.uk
If you would like any further details please feel free to ask any questions using the “Contact Us” page on the Club website – or by coming along to a Thursday night training session.
You can play wheelchair basketball if you are completely able-bodied – and we would love to hear from you if you are interested in playing or getting involved with the Club.
We would particularly love to hear from you if you have an injury that now prevents you from playing basketball (for example – bad back, knees or ankles).
Please pass this onto anyone who you think might be interested.
Thanks for your time.
